Jhulanta Kalabogi / ঝুলন্ত কালাবগী

Jhulanta Kalabogi is about people who are floating on salt water lifelong. Kalabogi is a village of Sutarkhali union of Dakop thana (police station) of Khulna district. Jhulantapara, 9 number ward of Kalabogi. Through her work she tried to explore the relationship of the people here especially women, with environment. About 5000 people are living here in about 1500 to 2000 houses. Jhulantapara is situated in Sundarbans and flooded by Bay of Bengal. The main occupation of these people is fishing. They live so close to the nature; it seems they are inter-linked with the joy and sorrows of the Sundarbans. During the full moon it is even more difficult to survive with the flashing water of Shibsa river. Geographically, the people here are constantly in endangered environment. Their houses are constantly flooded by the tides of the river. The river is gradually eroding even more areas every day. It seems like Shibsa river is consuming these lands in her womb. Global Warming is a prime reason behind all these. Due to global warming, the water level of the river is increasing constantly and if this continues, this place will be completely submerged within next five to six years. After the cyclone “Yash” the situation even became worse. This neighbourhood area had been scattered into two parts by a new breach of the river two years ago. Mrittika worked in this place to bring forward the stories and struggle of these  people specially women, to the world.
